Bergen County - Park Ridge - Military Bands of the Civil War @ Pascack Historical Society

Sunday, July 15 -- Bergen County Military Bands of the Civil War at 2 p.m. Ed Moderacki, River Vale's Municipal Historian and the conductor of the popular Waldwick Band, will discuss the role, organization, and instrumentation of military bands serving with Civil War military units. In particular, he will relate the story of the band of the 22nd New Jersey Regiment, the only regiment raised for Union service from Bergen County during the Civil War.  The program will have recordings of typical band music of the period along photographs of bands and instruments. All lectures take place in the Pascack Historical Society’s Ellen Berdais Hall, 19 Ridge Ave., Park Ridge and begin promptly at 2 p.m. Admission is free. There will be complimentary coffee and homemade baked goods.

He will speak on his book,  Victory or Death : The Battles of Trenton and Princeton, December 25, 1776 - January 3, 1777 , one of the inaugural volumes in the  Emerging Revolutionary War Series .    Mr. Maloy works for the George Washington Memorial Parkway which administers important historic sites such as Arlington House, the Robert E. Sunday, July 15  - West Orange, Essex County Geothermal Tour at the Glenmont Estate Go "behind the scenes" at the Edison home. Join a guide for a walk through the basement of the famous house and learn about its new geothermal heating and cooling system. This program will last about 30 minutes take place at 1:30 and again at 2:30 pm. It focuses on the technical aspects of the environmentally friendly geothermal system. The basement is not wheelchair accessible. The tour is included with regular admission. Tickets must be purchased at the Thomas Edison National Historical Park Laboratory Complex Visitor Center at 211 Main Street, West Orange, NJ. Saturday, July 14  - Tabernacle, Burlington County 90th Annual Captain Emilio Carranza Memorial Service The 90th Annual Captain Emilio Carranza Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 pm. Captain Emilio Carranza has been called "Mexico's Lindbergh." In 1928, while flying a goodwill mission from New York City to Mexico City, his plane crashed near Tabernacle, New Jersey during a thunderstorm. Since his death, members of American Legion Post 11 in Mount Holly have continued to promote his goodwill mission by honoring the pioneer aviator Captain Emilio Carranza. Guest should arrive around 12:30 with a folding chair so that you can find a shady place to view the event and a close parking spot.
